What Information Does a Bail Bond Agent Need From You?

5 min read

The single biggest thing that slows down a bail bond is missing information. Here's exactly what a bondsman needs from you, why each piece matters, and how having it ready turns a multi-hour process into one smooth call.

The defendant's identifying information

At the top of the list: the defendant's full legal name and date of birth. The name has to match what's in the county system — nicknames and partial names won't pull up the right record. If you're not sure of the exact spelling of the legal name, a booking number can substitute, but most families don't have that yet.

Date of birth helps the bondsman confirm they've found the right person, especially when there are common names in the system. If you know it, have it ready.

Where they're being held

For arrests in the Indio area, the person is usually at the John J. Benoit Detention Center at 82675 St. Hwy. 111 in Indio. But not always — they could be at another Riverside County facility or still in transit. Knowing the facility, or at least knowing they were arrested in the Indio area, lets the bondsman start in the right place.

If you don't know where they are, say so. Locating them is part of what we do, but it helps to know the arrest happened in or around Indio so we search the right system.

The charges and bail amount

If you know the charges, share them — they help the bondsman understand the likely bail range and whether anything unusual (like a 1275 hold) might apply. If bail has already been set, the exact amount lets us quote the premium immediately.

If you don't know either, that's okay. We can often find out as part of locating the defendant. But anything you do know moves things faster.

Co-signer information

Most bonds need a co-signer — the person who takes on financial responsibility for the bond. A strong co-signer has stable income, a fixed address, and a relationship with the defendant. Having a co-signer lined up before you call, with their contact and income information ready, can turn the whole process into one continuous motion.

If you're going to be the co-signer, be ready to verify your identity, address, and income. The stronger the co-signer, the more flexible the terms — and sometimes the difference between needing collateral and not.

Why having it ready matters

Every missing piece of information is a phone call back, a wait, and time your loved one spends sitting in a cell. When you have the defendant's name, date of birth, the facility, the charges if known, and a co-signer ready, the paperwork, approval, and bond posting can all happen in a single flow.

You don't need to be perfect — if you're missing something, call anyway and we'll help you find it. But the more you have ready, the faster it goes.
